Before Your Visit
Preparation is key to getting the most out of your campus visit. Research the college thoroughly and prepare specific questions based on your interests and concerns.
Schedule your visit in advance, especially during peak times like spring and fall. Many colleges offer different types of visits including group information sessions, campus tours, overnight stays, and departmental visits.
Bring a notebook, camera, and comfortable walking shoes. Plan to spend at least half a day on campus to get a real feel for the environment.
During the Tour
Pay attention to both the physical campus and the campus culture:
Physical Campus:
• Condition and modernity of academic buildings
• Library facilities and study spaces
• Residence halls and dining options
• Recreation and fitness facilities
• Safety and security measures
• Accessibility features
• Technology resources
Campus Culture:

• How manageable is the workload?
• What opportunities exist for internships and research?
For Faculty (if visiting department):
• What makes your program unique?
• What are the career outcomes for graduates?
• What research opportunities are available for undergraduates?
After Your Visit
Take time to reflect on your visit while it's fresh in your memory:
• Write down your impressions immediately
• Rate different aspects of the campus (academics, social life, facilities, etc.)
• Compare your experience to other colleges you've visited
• Consider whether you can see yourself spending four years there
• Follow up with any additional questions
• Send a thank-you note to your tour guide or admissions counselor
